Resident Assistants are mentors and role models to our residents. They develop a professional relationship with the residents and have regular one-on-one interactions to get to know each resident individually. A Resident Assistant encourages each resident to reach her goals, abilities, and potential for achievements. She provides support, encouragement and leadership to the residents. The RA also makes sure the resident is doing what she is supposed to, such as chores, cooking, etc.
The 4:30 pm to 8 pm RA will eat meals with the residents, prefaced with a daily devotion and dinner prayer. She may also have to offer meal preparation help to the resident.
An overnight RA is there 8 pm to 7 am and may sleep in a private bedroom equipped with a full-sized bed, desk, and television.
A weekend RA's shift is a 27 1/2 hour shift one weekend a month, beginning at 4:30 pm on Saturday and ending at 8 pm on Sunday. It pays a modest stipend of $161 per shift. There is plenty of time for personal periods such as hobbies, TV, reading, homework, etc.
